Devcon 2008, A Blast Was Had By All

Well,

The Aussie Clarion Devcon 2008 is over. And what a time we had!

Many thanks must go firstly to Geoff Spillane, who made the entire escapade possible. His tireless work behind and in front of the scenes meant a superb all-over experience. Thankyou Geoff.

Secondly, a huge shout out to the three blokes from Soft Velocity who made their way across the mighty ocean to visit our far off colonial land. To Bob Z, Bob F and Diego .. Thankyou for your time and all the work you put in to get the content (Training and Otherwise) ready. It was a real pleasure to spend time with you.

Thirdly, the event wouldn't have kicked along quite so swimmingly without the humorous antics of Bruce Johnson (and by extension the rest of the Capesoft Crew). Thankyou Bruce for your wisdom and presence. I know it is, as always, very much appreciated. Plus, you tell a good joke.

Fourthly, a big thanks to all 3rd Party Folk who ponied up the dough .. ahem, the goods and chattels. There was an amazing number (and dollar amount) of Prizes this year. Everyone (i'm pretty sure) walked away with quality swag. Cheers!

Fifthly, Lastly, Finally .. Thank YOU (well, _you_ if you are indeed an attendee). Personally, I was blessed to have made a whole bunch of new friends and accomplices.

The future of the Clarion Community is bright indeed!

Training - The 2 Bobs Plus One Diego!

(Training)

(LINK) Training Sessions

Training will be held from Monday 26th of May through to Thursday 29th of May.

Good news! Bob Z has confirmed that both Bob Foreman and Diego Borojovich will be travelling over from the sunny alligator climes of Florida. This is fantastic news. Not 1, not 2 but 3 Soft Velocity People! Not just for weekend, but for the Training week too!

Kudos and Thanks to you guys (if you read this) for determining to make the trip. We Aussies look forward to meeting you, catching up with you and hearing from you at the Aussie Devcon 2008.

Just be careful not to get in the way of me and the ocean. A swim for all the "polar bears" is a must!

Aussie DevCon 2008 - 30th May to 1st June

.. [dun dun dun] ..

For the last two years, one event has shaped the Australian .. nay .. the _entire_ Clarion world. Some say it's origins began deep underground in a lab full of mice. Others say Bill Gates is really Bob Z in disguise. Some even go so far as to say the DevCon is funded by Linux fanboys.

What everyone agrees is that the Aussie DevCon is the place to be!

(When)

The time! The time you ask!

Friday 30th May 2008, 3:00pm through till 1st June 2008, 3:00pm (updated). So that's, what .. ummmm .. maths .. Need to write a little Clarion app .. Wonder if there's any Capesoft templates to subtract one thing from another.

(Where)

Eden (not to be confused with the garden) is a beautiful location (similar to the garden). It is within this town by the seaside that the DevCon will be held.

The place! The place you ask!

The Eden Fisherman's Recreation Club has large conference rooms, good food, and is barely a moment away from the beach!

(Travel To Eden)

Flying?

The regional carrier is Rex Aviation http://www.rex.com.au/. The regional airport is Merimbula. I will be organizing transport between Eden and Merimbula so a little closer to the DevCon dates I'll ask everyone flying in to let me know when they're due to arrive and depart. The aircraft are a SAAB 340 with normal seating capacity of 34. Despite the short flight, in-flight refreshments are served.

Driving?

Eden is a lazy 7 hours from either Sydney or Melbourne with rest stops, and 3 hours from Canberra.

Buses?

Yes there's coach services available up and down the coast so check with your travel agent.

Trains?

No sorry, too much political squabbling so they never got here.
